M.E.V. – Futuristic Exploration Track Vehicle for Mars

The Mars Exploration Vehicle (M.E.V.) is a visionary mobility concept, which has been designed for the needs of future Martian scientists in 2055. The vehicle’s design aims to keep the passengers safe while exploring the rough Mars terrain. The MEV’s body consists of solid walls, which are filled with iron based Mars sand to shield the deadly radiation. Thinking of culling out safety hazards, this futuristic vehicle uses high-resolution cameras surrounding the body instead of windows. Most of the parts can be 3D printed on Mars which will not just kill the enormous transportation costs but also makes maintenance more feasible and easier. The efficient solar panel system on the vehicle’s roof is gaining enough power to support engine and the electrical systems for days.

The assembling of the vehicle can be divided into 3 parts: the body, the chassis, and the track system. The interior of the body is the main workspace for two passengers. The surroundings outside are projected with modern sensor technology on screens inside the vehicle where passengers can retrieve and process the information on the screens with hand gestures.

M.E.V. - Futuristic Exploration Track Vehicle for Mars by Lucas Fonfara, Janos Gerasch, and Felix Miletzki

The M.E.V. drive-system is made to explore unfamiliar terrain. It is able to balance his stance out while driving, this feature enables passengers to work simultaneously. The M.E.V. has both manual and autonomic drive system, it includes four tracks with individual motors. A Single track is made of a body, the electronic system and the track-segments. Because of the environmental circumstances, it is important to simply maintain the track-system, this enable passengers to print a new segment on board, in case of emergency.

To create a comfortable working space and to secure the fragile probes on board, we need to come up with a new kind of suspension. This suspension system is not based on normal metal springs, it is a 3D printed web structure mattress that is located between the main body and its chassis. With a 3D printer on board the scientists are able to replace broken parts like continuous tracks or springs very quickly. This enables the crew to stay self-sufficient on their exploration tours.

Kangaroo Notebook for Moleskine by Jeongdae Kim

Kangaroo Notebook is a design submission from Jeongdae Kim. Inspired by Kangaroos, this notebook design features a discreet compartment to keep the pen.

As a huge fan of the hard cover and the elastic band of Moleskine, which is famous for their discreet “look and feel” and functional designs I tried to find a new way for housing a pen in notebook while keeping their minimalistic design.

Like kangaroos the Kangaroo notebook embraces the dedicated ballpoint pen using 4 long bumps inside the hard cover and the tension of band so that the outline of notebook always remains flat.

3D Printed VITRUS Multitool Helps You Keeping Up Good Hygiene Practices

Appearance is one of the highest attributors that affect how an impoverished person is viewed by the public. This minor disadvantage disallows the person opportunities to be interviewed, which in turn, diminishes work opportunities. Visual appearance also affects the way the person is viewed by the public, where in most cases, the impoverished person is not even considered.

VITRUS, is an inexpensive hygiene multitool. Its design aesthetic was specifically aimed to reduce excess material requirements while creating a simple form that was a functional as it was beautiful. Comprising of ABS plastic, VITRUS is entirely 3d Printable. This process of manufacturing allows all componentry to be integrated into the casing without being manufactured and fitted separately. It houses four essential grooming tools: A pair of safety scissors, a fine toothed comb, a removable safety razor and a deployable toothbrush.

Net_Work Installation at Honolulu Museum of Art Represents a Weblike System

Net_Work installation at Honolulu Museum of Art invites visitors to navigate through a weblike system in this participatory installation. The gallery space is connected and reorganized by abstract wall maps of global shipping, immigration, internet, air traffic and many others. Net_work plays with ideas of agency and autonomy in a global economy, and foregrounds notions of self-empowerment within predetermined systems. Stretched across the gallery like spontaneous gestures, Net_work brings new meaning to the term “throw net” often used by fishermen who cast nets into the water to catch fish.

The construction system uses fishing net as construction material to divide, manipulate and form transparent spatial systems. As visitors enter the system of nets, they will find their own direction on paths that lead through the installation. Net_work intends to prompt introspection on one’s ability to find self-awareness in existing paradigms, and draws attention to Hawaii’s multifaceted connections to the rest of world.
