Mentum Alarm Clock by Fraser Leid

MENTUM Alarm Clock is a concept project with a simple brief, design an alarm clock for a bedroom environment. The design was based on behavior and user observation. Inspired by many sources from Danish design, Braun design ethos, to design era from the year of 1960’s to 1980s, the result is a classic style alarm with modern twist.

When abruptly roused by an alarm clock, the user generally does not look at or engage with it accurately to switch it off. The observation is that the action to reach out and switch off the alarm may be clumsy at times, which usually does not result in the alarm being turned off on the first attempt.

The function of Mentum Alarm Clock is based on momentum, where user can just push the front of this device downwards to deactivate the alarm. This limits the amount of contact required between user and the device.

Stagg EKG : Electric Pour-Over Kettle for Coffee Lovers

Stagg EKG is the first minimalist electric kettle of its kind that doesn’t look like a dang spaceship control center with a million buttons. It is an electric pour-over kettle with variable temperature control and a stunning, minimalist design. The company also offers the Stagg EKG+ upgrade, which includes Bluetooth app connectivity for the true coffee nerds or coffee shops looking for a connected café experience. Your scale, grinder, and kettle will be able to “talk” and work in tandem to produce a café’s recipes with ease and precision at a touch of a button.

Turn the knob to select your desired temperature, it ranges from 135-degree F to 212-degree F, then this kettle would do the rest. No need to guess for the temperature, the large LCD screen displays real time temperature with an illuminating element, it is clearly showing you the heating progress.

At the back, there’s a toggle to switch to HOLD mode, it means that Stagg EKG would maintain your desired temperature whether in Fahrenheit or Celcius for about 30 minutes. When you don’t set the HOLD mode, this kettle would automatically go to sleep after reaching the set temperature.

Zero Sail Concept Sailing Catamaran Features Modern Racing Catamaran Design

Zero Sail is an 18-meter concept sailing catamaran that allows 10 people to spend up to 3 weeks on the open sea. Using new technologies and a unique construction it offers a highly sportive user experience while still being sustainable throughout its whole lifecycle. Available to a broader user group, Zero Sail is a charter yacht. Size and performance need to be manageable for hobby skippers without the help of professionals and still offer enough space for bigger groups.

Even though designed as a charter yacht, Zero Sail gives the experience and felling of competitive sailing, many details have been inspired by modern racing catamarans. Using alternative materials and an emission free energy management system, Zero Sail has a holistic approach to sustainability.

Designers : Julius Graupner and Thor Unbescheid

Most of the common sailing catamarans of this size are built out of barely ecological, non-recyclable materials like carbon fiber, glass fiber and epoxy. Zero Sail is made out of an aluminum space frame covered with high-tensile polycarbonate, in a similar manner, that cars are built. Both materials are 100% recyclable. Unlike other sailing catamarans, the helm stand is placed in the front right beneath the wing sail. Here the skipper is exposed to the elements and has superior oversight. The crossbeam holds the wing sail and has an indicator that shows its angle. The living area is located in the back. It has a bright living space with huge panorama windows. On the left of the balcony is the connection for charging the batteries and refueling the H².

Specifications:

WING SAIL
Mostly found in high performance regattas, the rigid wing sail provides more lift, and a better lift-to-drag ratio, than traditional sails. Zero Sails wing is computer controlled and assisted, preventing critical situations like capsizing.

WAVE-PIERCER HULL
A wave-piercer hull makes the catamaran more stable in rough conditions and suitable for the open sea. Slim hulls cause less drag and allow higher performance

FUEL CELL
Most sailing yachts have combustion engines as additional propulsion that are also used to charge batteries. Zero Sail instead uses fuel cells to charge buffer batteries. They produce electricity through a chemical reaction of oxygen in the air and stored hydrogen. The only emission from this process is steam. When sailing, the electric motors can be used as generators, charging the batteries.

SUPPLY SYSTEMS
12 x 75 L hydrogen tanks at 700 bar equal 400 L of Diesel. This is enough to be autonomous for 1- 2 weeks. Tanks of this size and pressure are already used in automobiles. 2 x 22 kW electric motors are able to create energy when sailing under wind. Battery banks buffer the energy produced by the fuel cell or the motors A closed water/wastewater treatment system

Modern and Unique Bern Clutch by Odo Fioravanti

Bern Clutch is a concept 3D printed sintered nylon clutch, designed for Maison 203. This unique clutch was inspired by peculiarity of the topography of Bern, a Swiss City, a Unesco World Cultural Heritage Site thanks to its historic feature. The design consists of a series of rounded blades seem to stem from circular central point and multiply to create the clutch. The structural rhythm of this clutch comes from the gaps between an oval shape and the next. This artistic clutch reproduces an optical effect that allows it to change its aspect depending on the observation point. Yes, it might look like it changes its shape when you see if from different point of view.

Ehsaas Concept Watch for Visually Impaired People Raises Braille Numbers on Its Surface

Visually impaired people need to use different techniques to see, feel, and read. Ehsaas is a concept watch designed specially for the blind, unlike Bradley watch where you feel the hour and minute hands, this concept features electronic active polymer surface that raises Braille numbers as representation time of day.

I was at my home during my summer break and I was listening to Stevie Wonder, an inspiring artist who is blind since childhood. While listening to him, I pondered upon the lifestyles of the blind and it made me realize about problems they have to go through in their daily routines and therefore, I chose to solve one of them, which is keeping track of time. Time is intangible, they cannot perceive day and night, the idea was to make time tangible, and let them feel how time passes by.

Deterioration of the vision makes someone has to use alternative techniques to accomplish life’s daily activities. This in turn enhances the other senses, mainly touch and hearing, and I chose to focus on the touch aspect. Following this thought, the first product that comes to mind in relation to time is a watch. And a watch is something that has not been designed or re-designed well enough for the blind to make the interaction easier with the product. This was precisely the reason why I thought of choosing a product known to all yet created for the special.

Ehsaas means “feel” in Hindi. This watch works on the principal of the simple Braille writing system which a blind person is familiar with. It’s all about feeling the raised dots in order to read the time. The watch face is made out of Electronic Active Polymer on which pixel circuits are formed to create the Braille numbers. A user-friendly elastic watch strap and Braille instructions on the packaging also assist visually impaired users.
