Sky Villages Installation by James Paulius

James Paulius has created an interactive installation called Sky Villages at SPARK Brooklyn Children’s Museum. This project aims to invite children to build clusters of airborne villages on wall, encouraging their creativity skills and imaginative play. These villages are made of tessellating units, they are interlocking within each other in countless ways to create cool, unique structures. By playing Sky Villages, children are engaging with their problem solving skill, creativity, and 3 dimensional thinking.

The background story of this interactive play is that when Earth’s population increases, there’s a high possibility that we look into the atmosphere as inhabitable space. Sky Villages offers the possibility to live in the sky, in modular architecture that can be added and removed as population increases/decreases. Each unit is prefabricated with the intent of reuse rather than discardment. When a structure or building is no longer fit in the particular needs of its location, it can be removed elsewhere for a new family. These unique structures are constantly evolving. Each toy block is fabricated from Douglas-fir wood reclaimed from water towers in Manhattan, NY.

Malvaux Model Number 1 Knife Is Designed with Better Opening and Ergonomic Value

Featuring a single blade, Malvaux Number 1 Knife has been designed as a cutting tool with better opening and ergonomic value. As a piece of Swiss cultural heritage, this knife features polished stainless steel for the blade, the lever is water-jet cut and smoothed in Switzerland, then finally the blade is sharpened to the max in Sonlingen. The idea here is to solve the ergonomic issue of existing Swiss Army knife, that’s why the company designed it from scratch, resulting in a bent knife that can be opened without fingernail struggle yet every cut is precise.

Even after many years of usage, you can easily re-sharpen the blade, even if the worst happens, simply replace it thanks to Malvaux screw system. The blade and lever works together perfectly, across the precise “death spot”, the blade locks nicely into its final position. The weight feels just right, not too heavy and not light like you can feel on those plastic case knives.

Vantastic : Concept Van Toy by Scott Schenone

Vantastic, it’s a concept van toy designed to express an idea for multifunctional transportation. It’s just a simple project over a few weekends, and it turned out pretty good. It’s an exercise to take a classic recognizable car and re-imagine what it would look like if seen through a different design lens. That sleek black color with red accent may not be suitable for a family van, but Scott Schenone also designed another version, the mystery machine van that features cool and cheerful color.

Futuristic Rally Explorer Concept Vehicle for Future Race Car in The Year of 2116

Rally Explorer is a conceptual futuristic vehicle for the year of 2116. It’s designed as a submission for “A Roadtrip in 2116” contest held by Allegorithmic. The idea here is to design a rally racing vehicle for a race that takes place on another planet where the racing track would stretch across the planet from west hemisphere to east hemisphere. Yes, that’s unimaginably long track, also there’s no stopping point in between, so no support or help is available, all racers would be totally on their own.

The track would include climb over snow mountains, pass through rainforests and desert, and other different harsh environments. These racers might also face unknown dangers while racing, that’s why the vehicle shouldn’t be just a means of transportation, it should also become a shelter during disasters or accidents.
