HydraLight Terrarium is a 3d printed LED Light consists of a series of interlocking striated sections, allowing for flexibility to adapt to different plant sizes. The striations act as an expanding frame that fits around the plant, the fluid nature of 3d printing allows for customization and configuration of the light’s size and proportions. The benefit of using LED lighting in terrariums and indoor plants is that they offer monochromatic light or a mix of different wavelengths using the resistance micro-controller. LED lights have been proven to provide the best source of lighting for plants cultivated indoors, different light wavelengths offer different benefits for growth, dormancy and seed germination.

Designed by Margot Krasojević, this light suspends a string of LED’S that switch on when the water sensor, which protrudes from the 3d printed striated elements and is buried in the earth, is activated.

Watering the plants activates the sensor circuit and the entire light terrarium will illuminate the plants, the water activated sensor is an electronic gate that allows electrons to pass an electric circuit in order to power the LED light source. The electronic circuit uses a resistor and capacitor to store the generated current which is produced when the plants are watered, the resistor changes light wavelength catering to the type of plant and it’s growth cycle.

Margot Krasojević explains about this project that LED lights have been proven to provide the best source of lighting for plants cultivated indoors, the different light wavelengths offer benefits for growth, dormancy and seed germination. The light’s form is a frame sequence inspired by landscaped irrigation fields. The LED can fit around any flower pot size or work as a presentation table light, as shown in the photos, the striated form directs and reflects light into the plants stem and growth, the light can also hang like a painting.
